What a great
weekend. Your brother, you and I drove to Bandon on Thursday. Friday
morning we got up and went to breakfast with Papa i.e. Grandpa. After breakfast we went to
the beach. Dylan and Grandpa walked all of the way from the jetty to Face Rock and up
the stairs. You and I walked part way with them then we turned around and went back to the car to go get them. You fell asleep in the backpack.
On Saturday we
all piled into Grandma and Grandpa's car and went for a drive up Elk
River. We found a great spot down by the river and had a picnic lunch.
You were on a tarp and blanket until you pulled the tarp towards you, got a hold of a rock, and decided to chew on it. Needless to say, it didn't feel good on your sensitive gums!
On Sunday we met
my friend Katrina for lunch and then wandered around Old Town for a bit
and got a snack at Cranberry Sweets. Then, we went to Grandma Abbie and
Grandpa Keith's house. It was the first time you got to meet your cousins. Alex was really excited to hold you and you seemed to enjoy it too.
We stayed over
night at Grandma Abbie and Grandpa Keith's. So, this morning we got to
have breakfast with them, Mandy and Steve and Alex and Cameron, and Aunt
Nancy and Uncle Ralph. Bob and Chris brought Shelby, Jamison and
Elliana back up for breakfast too! Then we drove home. You were doing pretty well and even napping...until Dylan decided to pinch you. I think he was doing his "I got your arm" or some such thing but his "got" is an awful lot like a pinch ;)
"It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself." -Joyce Maynard

What I Want for Mother's Day...
As posted by Mary Carpenter on Facebook:
What I Want for Mother’s Day
Dear Children,
Mother’s Day is coming up, and I thought I should tell you what I want. This way there’s no guilty panic or last minute purchasing of flowers at the closest gas station. So, this is what I want, this year and every year after; it’s pretty simple really.
I want you to be a decent human being.
I want you to be who you are, but don’t be an asshole.
I want you to work hard at everything you do, because life is too short not to give it everything you’ve got.
I want you to ask for help when you need it.
I want you to help others when they need it.
I want you to learn how to cook, do your own laundry, pay your bills and know how to clean a bathroom.
When you screw up, and you will, more than once, I want you to own it, because it’s the screw-ups that make the victories sweeter.
I want you to travel, because the world is huge and you are one part of it.
I want you to know that even when we hate each other, I will never stop loving you.
I want you to play nicely with others.
I want you to feed your curiosity.
I want you to find a way to do what you love, and realize that that might look different than you originally thought.
I want you to respect every human being’s right to be who they are.
I want you to sometimes be more interested in someone else than in yourself.
I want you to know that you are flawed and you are extraordinary. There is no one else like you.
I want you to know that I would lay down my life for you in Lily Potter fashion any day of the week.
I want you to realize how lucky you are every once in awhile even if only for an instant.
I want you to know love, even if it means getting hurt.
I want you to relax and not feel guilty about it.
I want you to know life can be brutally hard sometimes.
I want you to know that you can choose happiness even when the dark side offers you cookies.
And I wouldn’t mind breakfast in bed.
See, simple.
Love,
Mom

Totally Conquered the Flipping Thing
You can now confidently go from back to stomach and stomach to back. And, Marnie and I watched you scoot backwards on your back of all things so you could get a toy.
I also wouldn't be very surprised if you kind of skipped the crawling thing for the most part. You want to walk...as in right NOW!!!!
